be the change

LET US LEARN FROM HISTORY.

Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi is a profound leader of the Indian Independence Movement, intended to gain freedom from British rule; it lasted decades and started before Gandhi was even born. This nationalist movement was revived which  started Gandhi’s persistent engagement in Indian society and politics. Gandhi gave the word “resistance” another connotation, he led the movement with the idea of peace and non violence as the solution. The last reading assigned this quarter was M.K. Gandhi’s “Hind Swaraj” or Indian Home Rule, a novel that argues why the British government was not fit to rule India, therefore they should grant India freedom. This novel is just one of the major contributors to Gandhi’s involvement in this resistance.

His leadership entailed much more that just words, he was an activist. Although his acts were against the use of violence, they were bolder. Gandhi’s most historical act of protest was the Salt March in the month March of 1930, where he along with supporters walked more than 200 miles to the sea. This march targeted British Imperialism, it was to go against the British order for Indians to buy salt, preventing them from gathering it themselves. This simple yet impactful protest took a huge toll in their resistance, it only showed the power of their nation.

Gandhi set an impeccable reputation as a leader of the Indian Independence Movement, a reputation our generation should emulate during this time. As a nation we, like Gandhi, should lead one another towards change. We will accomplish much more with strategy, we must use the intelligence we have for the better. Gandhi’s methods are exemplary reason’s to why violence will never resolve problems. History has a way of showing us how to deal with similar events or situations, history should be used as an advantage. WE MUST  LEARN FROM HISTORY.Gandhiji Line Drawings (4)1.JPG

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
